5th Anniversary Military Pipes & Drums

The Dutch Military Pipes & Drums celebrated their fifth anniversary in Delft on Saturday the 22nd of January. After the official program in the Army Museum, where the 11 Luchtmobiele Brigade was also represented, the band performed in the town centre of Delft. In the Nieuwe Kerk, the famous church of Delft, the band played ‘Highland Cathedral’, accompanied by the church organ. This very successful day was concluded by a great party.

Since its foundation on the 21st of January 2006 the band got more and more connected to the Defence organisation. The band secured an exclusive status under guidance of the Director Military Music Armed Forces. The commander of 11 Luchtmobiele Brigade has already declared his intentions to appoint the Dutch Military Pipes & Drums as its brigade band. Both parties will meet in the near future to discuss a covenant. At this moment the band consists of 18 pipers and 10 drummers. They come together one Sunday a month at the Oranjekazerne in Schaarsbergen – home of 11 Luchtmobiele Brigade – where, besides practising the tunes, a great deal of attention is given to military appearance and exercise.
